This website has a couple of purposes. First it’s a blog for students in the NUS classes I teach in Singapore and Southeast Asian Literatures in English . What I’m aiming initially is a testbed where we can develop some critical commentary on writing and literary events which can then be tagged and distributed on different social media: the idea is for all of us to start participating in an enriching critical discussion, bridging academic work and larger discussions of Singapore society.
The site also serves as a repository for some Singapore Literature resources that I’d digitized before, and migrated from previous sites. At the moment these are:
- Wang Gungwu, Pulse — an important pioneering English-language poetry collection from 1950
- Stories from The Straits Chinese Magazine — some of the best stories written in English in the period 1897-1907
